21st Birthday celebrations

My older daughter was due on Christmas Day 21 years ago. I had other ideas to get this baby out before Christmas and thus she was born on the 22nd. So we had a wonderful pre Christmas weekend with many family celebrating OD's 21st Birthday. We had Turkey Dinner in  the evening and were completely stuffed, left overs for Sunday Lunch and a rather dour carol service later that evening, it may not have helped being stuck behind the pillar, but no one in the body of the church seemed to be singing - the choice of carols may have been a lot to do with it.

Whilst we were recovering from eating too much I cleverly gave OD  all the ingredients to make a wonderful profiterole Christmas cake  and here it is  with candles - it was truly scrumptious.

Tie Dye. Tuesday 11th Decemeber

Having a cold day here  today -3oc  the tie dye is frozen on the washing line. It needs to be dry by Wednesday night when we will untie it and see what delights will emerge.

London Oct 2012

During the half term I visited London with 5 Girlguiding UK senior section girls from  Cumbria south. we had a fab time visiting the sights eating good food. We visited a wonderful Vietnamese restaurant called Pho. we are hoping to go again in January and will definitely be visiting this restaurant.

Inspired

This is my lawn before I paid some one to cut it for me - he had to strim it, rake it, and then mow & strim again!

This is following the neatening up and a mornings work by some one with a good back. I have now taken my two lawn mowers to be serviced despite the bad back I have not had a working lawn mower either - I seem too wear them out pretty quick!

After nipping out  into my garden I have become inspired.

BUT passed the non planted potatoes  think  I ought to get them in but I seem to have a few left over potatoes growing from last year.

This is my vegetable plot which should be bare apart from  my garlic in the foreground. Potatoes from last year in the centre of the non weeded patch.

The hens love getting  in the vegetable patch - this is the upwards view of the VP. which should look a bit tidier than this.

all that rain created a lovely growth spurt on everything including the lovely weeds.

Raised bed Number one full of fever-few & poppy seedlings - not sure whether to leave these and see what happens!

Raised bed number two - likewise!

Raised bed number three which has had netting on it  and minimal weeds - interesting and a potted hosta so the hens don't nibble it.

SO  just a bit of gardening to catch up on.

My shed is looking fab and this year I wanted to plant round it so it looked pretty - hopefully this is the before photo and I will show you soon how it has developed.........

Noticed the  raspberries, rogue black berries from over the fence, blackcurrants, apples, gooseberries, and   rhubarb are all doing well.

Rogue blackberries!

Huma, my very clever hen being rudely disturbed by me - she loves gardening and is always under the spade or fork waiting for offerings - the others haven't seem to caught on about this!

Black currants are actually in the hen Coop.

Just  realised what a lovely garden I have.

So what about the sewing? Next time soon. This  must be the 'and So'

Posting in the month of the J's

It seems I have not posted since January and so now it is June I thought I ought to do some thing about this!
So I have been laid up for the last 4 weeks with a bad back and now am beginning to resurface.
The garden is in a state and after having that lovely dry spell and then that lovely rain the garden is a jungle. I thought this may inspire me to get the garden under control which was my intention this year. I will not speak about the inside at the moment but have my two daughters at home with me it being the end of the Jubilee holiday and so they have sort of been helping.

We have had a big AGM with Guiding in the Division and the setting was the lovely Hutton Roof village hall which was transformed into a wonderful place to have an evening meal let alone a meeting. i am just so sorry i never took a photo of the decorated venue.

And the sewing situation well............................Nothing .................
although the sewing machine has been out since January. But since OD came home from uni. last week it has gone away. I am proposing to cover my ercol settee with some very nice material but not yet decided.....

Only posting in Months with a J in it!

 well

Bad colds!

For the last year I have had cold after cold after cold - I am sort of cold free at mo! -Bit of a blocked nose and sneezes and racking cough -(oh sounds like a cold) but OH is really poorly has a bad cold which has taken him to bed - not like him - he never gets a cold. He did see someone who said he had not had such a bad cold as this for 30 yrs! Unfortunately I think OH has caught it. It has spoiled his Christmas and New Year. But that is now all over so we can only hope things improve. I will make him another Hot Honey, Fresh Ginger and Lemon in a mo. but we have run out of fresh ginger shall use powder- not quite the same but almost as good!

We have been good with food this Christmas and New Year and have just bought what we needed and didn't get into that mad food shopping lark - admittedly there were only the 4 of us at home but apart from forgetting carrots and then Father Christmas leaving us some on the doorstep for me to trip over as I went out to Church on Christmas morning and now the ginger we have done very well. Even with last night's take away we have saved it for today - breakfast I don't think!

What sewing have I done this Christmas?

Unfortunately I missed the Harrogate Knitting & Sewing Show with my mum being poorly and so I decided I would make my reindeer cushions, which were really meant to be for last Christmas, but I never got round to it. I made for a few people and myself reindeer cushions - I love them so much that i struggled to part with them.

I made a dog one for my dear friend - she hasn't got it yet as I was a bit slow in finishing it-BUT I did then find her a Vizsla's calendar in the Sale.

and then OD decided she wanted to make one - which i absolutely love.

Oh i also found this material in the Nativity costume box that my aunty had given me last year - I think it was a shepherd's costume - we have used the angels and a lot of the shepherds this year BUT I think I will have another look to check there isn't any more!

Update

Hi, oh dear it is 18 months since i last wrote!! Decided i will write once a week and then i don't have to feel pressurised.
What has happened since i last wrote- rather a lot.
OD has gone to uni. and loving it inbetween friend troubles & assignment hand ins!
YD continuing as before had to miss her 14th birthday party and Birthday because my Mum was poorly and then died a very peaceful and lovely death at her home. We have since had a lovely birthday party for YD a month later and remembered the birthday cake - last year we forgot it - so this year we had it at the begining - clever thinking!!
Oh i have a beautiful new shed - put up by OD boyfriend. now we can get OH's car in garage - moved stuff into shed from garage - it was quite emptyfor a while because i did not want rubbish just transfered when it is frosty - only had three days when we have had to do this so far this winter!
Hen's are still living - but seem to have a resident rat living with then!
